BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE
Uganda imports all its petroleum requirements including Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG). The country has made significant commercial oil and gas discovery and intends to set up an oil refinery in the near future.
According to the energy balance of Uganda, biomass contributes for 90% of the energy requirements. Data available in the Ministry of energy indicate that the LPG usage currently stands at 1% which is still very small. Currently the country faces a power deficit characterised with load shedding and electricity has the highest tariff in the region. There are well over 50 dealers in LPG, with no standards, both for the equipments and operation. In the view of the foregoing the ULPGAS was formed to address these challenges in the industry.
VISION
ULPGAS shall promote safe and efficient use of liquefied petroleum gas as an alternative energy by all member companies.
